When I towed TTs for years and years, I never used any chemicals within TT's black water tank. When towing, we simply camped and before pulling out of CG, we dumped our tank. We never towed with stuff in our black or grey water tanks. Like many, I never want to get into an accident and a TT's tank leaks.
At my current seasonal site, the CG owner's "pumper guy" dumps our TT's tank every Tuesdays (or Thursdays - for rain day). And in the fall before winter storage, I simply rinse inside the TT's black tanks with a long wand (down its toliet opening). re: - click here -
To this day, I've yet to buy any chemicals for its black tank. Only cost is a special RV tank rinse wand. $10-$15 dollar range.
Forgot to mention... When going into the bathroom, leave the high RPM fan OFF. Seriously. The roof vent fan is turned OFF. After flushing and washing the hands, then manually turn the roof vent ON, and do shut the door (after leaving the bathroom room). If one turns the fan on BEFORE flushing the toliet, the fan's suction will suck the stick upwards - out of the holding tank (re: up the open 3" toliet hole opening). And, this immediately stinks the bathroom up. Always turn the ceiling fan ON (and keep door closed) "after" leaving the small bathroom room. This works best for us...
