- niftypkgExplorerThanks for the boondocking suggestions. Will I have used these truck stops many times including Flying J . I thought J was just bought out by Love. Not sure. Some are better than others. Other spots are near McD's and other hwy intersections. Such as 17 and 260 in AZ.
- DesertboyExplorerIf its near a big Highway I use Luvs truck Stops a lot, They have bathrooms, coffee, open 24 hours, and anything you need for food. Even showers if you need one bad. I park out front off to one side. Never had a problem.
- AxleExplorerIf you are looking for a nice wilderness area between Phoenix and Tucson there is the Ironwood Forest National Monument (Ironwood Forest NM).
I have trucked camped there a couple of times and thought it was nice. It is a quick drive to either tucson or Phx from there. - RedskyExplorerThere are great places outside of Phoenix like the Kofa refuge if you truly mean boondocking and not parking overnight at a Wal-Mart which is another thing entirely.
- fikkellinExplorertry Bartlett Lake ...you will need a $6..00 a day pass.....great spot near Phoenix
- JoeVitaExplorerThere is BLM land all around the cities of the Phoenix area where you can boondock for two weeks at a time. In addition there is state trust land, but you need an annual $10 permit.
- niftypkgExplorerjefe in Phoenix by the time one pays for reservations and the camp spot you might as well have checked into a hotel. I have stayed at 4 star hotels in Scottsdale for $50/night. Luckily I can sleep solo with the top down. Hospitals and airports may work. Another possibility could be off airport parking.
- Snowman9000ExplorerI've always thought that a hospital would be a good place to stealth camp overnight. Right in the visitors parking lot, or one by the emergency entrance.
- jefe_4x4Explorernifty,
If you want to stealth camp the odds are stacked against you with a popup. If the top is up everyone knows there is someone in there. Still, the real bonafide expert is Sleepy, but he will divulge no info on how he stealth camped for 1200+ nights all over the country. My advice is to camp in-plain-sight like under a streetlight on the street or in a well lit parking lot. And not way back in a dim corner,...right up front like you own the place. I have done a lot of jeeping around Phoenix and find a plethora of just-out-of-town places to camp with a quick return to city center ( if the traffic will allow). We spent a week east of Phx. at Florence Jct. and watched the sun set for the last time in the 20th century with the lights of Phx. just to the west.
jefe - niftypkgExplorerGreat idea Snowman. That is correct and my point. Fuel= money vs local hook up. I did see something in south Old Town off Scottsdale Rd. I was 'camped' in a suite at Holiday Express. No RVs but a sign saying it was a camp park. I will keep my eyes open. I do intend to use hotels when necessary.
