Boondock in Phoenix?

Wow, I just found out that family is planning a get together over Thanksgiving in West Phoenix. RV parks are all way out on the perimeter of the valley. Does anyone have suggestions as to good, safe, reasonably quiet, places to try boondocking in the heart of Phoenix?
Our B fits in nicely just about anywhere, but it still is not a "stealth" camper and looks like an RV.
Thanks,
JIM
  • Great feedback! Thanks everyone! I guess when you drive a "B", you get to feeling that all the world is your campground!
I really dislike "Wal-Mart Camping" but I was stymied by the lack of available spaces in the Maricopa Parks system at this late date.
White Tanks looked like they had spaces and the location was right for us but the web site made it look like you had to be "home by 8 PM" or be locked out. I was relieved to find out that you can get a pass code for the gate for late arrivals.
    We booked our reservation there.

    Thanks again...

  • Phoenix covers over 517 square miles. Can you narrow the desired area a little bit?
  • I have spent the night(with others) at the Flying J at I-10 and 67th Ave.
  • There are several Rv parks in North West Phoenix around the Deer Valley area and also I-17 & I-101.
  • If you can tell me the cross streets you want to be near, will have some recommendations for boondocking. PM me of you want to
  • "Boon Docking in downtown Phoenix area?:):):) I am sure you are just pulling everyone's leg with your sense of humor!!!! If not, you are in for a disappointment:( What specific area or city are you trying to stay at? There are many snowbirders in the Phoenix area and would be willing to give you a list of parks that might meet your needs.
  • No boon-docking that I know of but the Arizona State Fair grounds allow camping. They are located at 1826 W McDowell Rd, Phoenix, AZ, 602-252-677.
Not the best area but very central. We have had friends camp there with no problems. Lots of space, full hook-up. AC is a must right now in Phoenix.
  • Come on, Jim. Boomdocking in the heart of Phx.

There are a number of City and County parks in the metro Phx area. The one I am familiar with is Lake Pleasant Maricopa County Park. It is located NW of Phx and you can camp on the water for about $10 per night.
