Brake dust......ugh!

What do you all do to limit the amount of brake dust on rims? Washed mine before last trip and by the time we were to the campground, rims were all yucky again. Have stock pads/rotors and just over 31k on them. OR is it just a fact of life we live in due to what everything is made of and just have to keep up w/elbow grease?

  • Switch to black rims and it gets a lot less noticeable. Looks cooler too.

Exactly and when I 'wash' mine (other than when it rains) I use my pressure washer.

My issue isn't brake dust, it's usually mud because my camping is mostly off road and my favorite woods spot has a stream to ford to get there

I guess it's ok to be anal about brake dust, but not for me. I think if I was the OP, I'd spray paint my wheels black and call it good...

  • I run Akebono performance pads because they offer the best braking with least dust for the way I drive and tow.

I've tried ceramic base pads and they do not offer enough braking power for towing. As in they felt like they had oil on them compared to the other pads! (Although I happily run ceramic base on my cars)

I've also tried "truck pads", and while performance was very good, those babies made a LOT of dust!
  • Original pads? I would be looking at replacing them.
I use ceramic pads that do not appear to leave much dust.
You can spray wheel with wheel cleaner. It helps but still need elbow grease.
