While i also much prefer a heavier tow vehicle, there's plenty of lightweight campers out there. One quick example is one of my siblings who just started out with a Flagstaff MicrocLite

Nearly all the features you could want while under 5K GVW on the camper can be towed easily with a lighter vehicle (they use a Nissan pickup) and bunks big enough for kids up to mid-teens. You could squeeze adults in those bunks, but it would not be too comfy.
