Paid $1100 for a LEER Camper shell, Hank loves to ride back there (75 pound lab/pointer mix) along with everything else like the generator,firewood,fishing gear etc. Got a Chevy 2500 full size (8ft) bed,everything including Hank is secure as we are headed down the road!

We have a fifth wheel so can't do a topper. Our furkids are two Shelties, when it's the 4 of us they ride in the back seat of our extended cab PU. Add our two grandsons, one is between them and one on my wife's lap. Long trips we will take two rigs.

Ideal would be in the cab with you. Depending on weather the camper ( crated ) would be ok ( unless it is too hot) in the bed of the truck (crated) the dog would be exposed to the elements, ( if choosing that option I would go with a topper) When I had a trailer I used an SUV as at TV dogs were crated in the back. I now have a MH and the dogs are crated where the dinette was. Handlers I used to assist traveled with dogs in the camper ( 5th wheel with generator and AC running in summer)

We have our 90 pound hound dog and beagle ride in 2 kennels in the truck bed. They do fine, and are happy to be with us camping.

The old fellow roams the house normally, probably asleep on my bed as I type this :Z When I ask him if he want to go camping, he can't wait to get into his crate (strapped in the bed of our truck) for a trip.

We have a 2 door truck, so if it is a short trip...I might let him ride up front. For longer trips.....I don't need BONE-BREATH panting in my ear the entire trip. :p

I won't put a topper (cap) on my truck....afraid it will look like a minivan....shutter at the thought :o
