Bryce Canyon Campgrounds

Wife and I looking at possibly going to Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah during July. We have never been there before. I notice they have 13 RV campsites that can be reserved.

Sure would appreciate comments from folks who have stayed there. Elevation and is it cool in July? What were your favorite things to see and do at Bryce Canyon? Best of the thirteen campsites?
Thanks in advance...Mike

  • If you want a little seclusion, try Kodachrome State Park...they have 4 full hookup sites. A gem of a place...about 15 minutes to Bryce. Spectacular at night...no lights anywhere.
  • Another vote for Rubys.
Also, they have a rodeo across the street that runs several evenings during the week.

  • If your going to Zion National park and plan on driving thru the long tunnel, just to let you know there's a fee, and you'll be escorted thruogh. The rangers have to stop traffic to one way only for you to get through. if you have a tall RV you'll be driving right in the middle of a two lane road. I just drove through there in a car back in October. I plan on going back some day.
  • I liked inside the park north campground site 14. Very quite and in the shade not far from bathrooms but not to close. Dump station nearby as were showers. You can ride a bicycle to the showers.

I like the park a lot we did a lot of walking as well as driving sight seeing.

    WiFI at the showers.
  • Ruby's inn at Bryce Canyon is a great place to stay, just outside the park. It is at 7,600' elevation. I think the highest point on the drive is around 9,200' elevation. THere is one lookout that has a arch just a few feet from the roadway.

Ruby's Inn has a hot tub, full hookups, and all that. Temperatures are nice in August.

Are you also going to Zion NP? It is only about 85 miles away. Don't worry about the tunnels, they are fine- I took a 40' Country Coach through them, towing a Jeep.

The North Rim of the Grand Canyon will be open in July, also at 7,500' elevation, it will be nice, and has lots of boondocking places to stay in. Ask the rangers for a good place.

  • North Campground was pretty basic (and cheap) when we stayed there (August 2011) in a reserved site. Loop A is close to the Visitor Center and I think just about all the sites were pull through, no hookups. Coin showers were a drive away down at the general store. Other than the woods, it didn't have a lot going for it.

I usually like staying inside the NPs but I'd probably go with Ruby's next time.

Late August was pleasantly cooler (than Zion, Arches, etc) at the higher elevation but not cold, so July will probably be similar.
  • Howdy!

Don't know about the campsites your refurring to, but we stayed at "RUBY'S which is located right a the entrance of Bryce. You can catch the shuttle to the park right in front of the campground.
