Buying a new micowave

Dear cousin had this issue and found that CW had them but were pricey. Surely there is something close at WM or other and you might be able to modify the trim piece with a wooden molding stained to match your cabinets to make it work. Some manufacturers offer trim pieces for their specific models in the instruction manual. Our micro at home is built in and DH was going to make an oak one to match the cabinets - he's a really good woodworker - until we spotted this one that all he had to do was screw it in place.

In my last trailer (Springdale), I replaced the microwave. Got it from Wall Mart. It was red, it was pretty! It was a little smaller than the original, but that was OK, it was still bigger than the one in our house!

The microwave was above the stove. I drilled 2 holes through the bottom of the cabinet and ran 2 screws through the holes that screwed into the screw holes for the feet of the new microwave. The screws were longer and need to go through the wood, through the foot and into the base of the microwave. It worked beautiful.

I then took the old trim, which did not match, and reattached to the wood of the cabinet. It was "close", close enough it looked good. The top and bottom filled in pretty good, but the sides had about a 1 inch gap. But it still looked good. It worked perfect until we sold the camper.

one of my microwaves is a magic chef and bought either at Lowes,HOme depot, or wally world. very inexpensive.

but if this is a high over the counter mount, be sure the additional heat won't cause a problem. I remember Class Bs where the microwave was up top, but if you got a convection/micro it had to be in a base cabinet.

Is it a HighPointe microwave you're replacing? If so, they are available for cheap and they'll fit like the OEM.

I have replaced two, in two different trailers.

If you are handy just buy the cheapest one you can find, (that your wife is satisfied with the color), and will fit in the opening.
Then modify the supports and the trim as necessary.
The one in my present trailer looks just like the original and all I had to do was make up some new mounting brackets.

I took my trim off and took it shopping with me. Put it over each store model until I found the one that fit. (Kinda like Cinderella!) That's the one I bought.

I went to WM with my measurements and got three units. Went home and tried out each one till I found the best one. Made my own trim kit.
