  • No booMdock for you!

where's the laughing emoji when you need it? 😂

  • And just like that, the 3rd new Facebook messenger-esqe thread today!

  • don't buy a generator, that would just make you a contributor to the disruption of everyone elses peace and quiet. plus with rulles on generator use popping up all over it may be somthing that you can't use when you want to depending where you are.  the only time I say get a generator is if you have to run your ac.  then solar and batteries become a little more expensive but the roof top space for the solar panels can become an issue

if you are serious about running a microwave then it is going to take a inverter as mentioned.  a 2000 watt inverter will run any small to normal microwave, then you have to increase battery capacity to be able to handle that use.  then instead of a generator you could look at solar panels.  you could put enough solar / batteries and inverter on your rig to power the microwave here and there through out the day, for cheeper than you can buy a generator that will run it.

Pretty slanted opinion. There are lots of reasons and people that prefer the simplicity and cost of a generator even if you need to use it minimally. I'm sure you probably camp in places where it's disturbance is not an issue. Moot point anyway. This model comes with a 4k genny. The OP is simply confused about what runs on 12v and what runs on 120. It's a rabbit hole to start proposing inverters and battery banks. This is a small mh. Maybe the OP will actually return to confirm. Holding breath...

if it cones with a 4k genny why is he trying to run it on 12V, could it be that the genny is a option that he didn't get?  kinda like the new truck camper I am getting, comes with genny prep and you can get a genny but I will find it more usefull to use as storage so I didn't get the genny option.

  • “Buy enough” inverter. Don’t come close to its capacity IMO.

  • bid_time might have exaggerated a wee but, but the answer is solid. Very few RVs come with an inverter, and both AC and microwave are 120 volt AC appliances, not 12 volt DC. So nobody runs either while boondocking. If you simply MUST have a microwave to live, you will have to buy and install an inverter, and for a microwave, said inverter MUST be pure sine wave unit, not a modified sine wave one.

Yes, I should have mentioned that. The best way to run the microwave is with a generator, and as an extra added bonus;  provided it’s properly sized; you also can run the air conditioner.

And the real winner, I use the generator to keep my house and furnace running when the power goes out.

  • The microwave is not a 12V appliance, it is 120V. You can not get 120V out of a  12V battery unless you have an inverter. The majority of RV’s do not have an inverter. Even if you did, it would only run the microwave for about 10 seconds, unless you had about  12 batteries and a 1200W inverter. Also the same with the air conditioner, except you would have to have a huge bank of batteries and a mega inverter.

thats a little exageration, well a lot.  we have done baked potatoes in the microwave before so about 10 min, how much longer do you need to run it?  and we only had four 6V GC2 batteries.  with 100AH LiFePO4, you can run a 900 watt (medium size microwave) for 70 minuits give or take.  A/C is a different story though.
