Buying New at Used Prices?? Yep, through Costco!

So you are here for advice on buying a travel trailer. That is a good start and you'll get lots of great advice here (along with some silliness, of course). Whatever you finally decide on, my recommendation is to check into purchasing it through Costco. I did, and saved a couple thousand dollars over several local dealer's "best prices", and was about the same as the local dealers wanted for two year-old used trailers. In my case, I had to drive out of state to pick it up, but for me it was worth it. Just use the following URL: "www.costcoauto.com/rv/" Click on "locate a dealer" then enter the unit you are looking for and they will match you up with the dealer nearest you. In my case it was Colerain RV in Dayton. OH. I had a fantastic sales person! She (Amy) was excellent, it was a ridiculously easy transaction and the service folks were very thorough during the inspection process. Buying new, but at wholesale pricing, allows you to use a new trailer for a year or two and trade-in or trade-up without the typical risk of a big loss. Be safe and Happy camping!

A company which cared for their customers would require all of their dealers to do warranty work on an equal basis, and wouldn't need to steer customers to any particular one.
  • Many dealers are the same way, if you didn't buy from us we won't service nor repair you unit even if it is under warranty ...

Be bought a new Kz 5th wheel, we were told that if we had a problem away from the home dealer call Kz customer service in Indiana and they would steer us to a dealer that would do warranty work ....

We saw such with a friend, he bought from a dealer in Ohio, he had some warranty work that needed to be done, he went to the dealer near him that sold Kz trailers for the work. He was told right up from, you didn't buy from us so we will not do any warranty work on your unit. He then called another dealer, same thing, he then called Kz customer service, they steered him to a dealer the next state over from were he was and they welcomed him with open arms, repaired his unit in a timely manor ....

So coming from one manufacturer that you had to only get repairs from where you bought a unit to a company that cares and steers you to where you can get repairs make anywhere in the country makes me a very loyal customer to that brand ...

    Save travels
  • We bought a travel trailer out of state and saved about $1800. When it came time for some warranty work, we went to Appleton Camping Center here in Appleton, WI. They said they would service it but we needed to bring it in and park it and they would get to it when they felt like it. Probably a minimum of two months to get it looked at. Could not schedule a time for them to look at it, needed to leave it parked there.

We went back to the place we bought it and had it fixed within the same day.

Sometimes saving money up front costs in the future. But we never went back to Appleton Camping Center to purchase any of the other three new campers we bought since then.

It may and it may not.
