Loulou57, thanks for the post, that is why i am here, the experienced travelers opinion, not some salesman quick to sell a truck.
Muddynoll, this is the info I am looking for. I am looking at a Silverado 2500 with a 6L in it. From what I have heard, it only gets around 10-12mpg, but Westend makes the valid point about the gas mileage if you think about it. If i spend 1k-2k in more gas each year but am not fussing (or hearing the fussing) when going through the mountains or pulling from a low end site at the lake, it is worth the extra $$ yearly.
Thanks mbopp and brulaz, for what I will be towing and for how much, I think the diesel is an overkill price wise. I know that it will definitely be the one to get the job done, but as you stated, with the ongoing maintenance and upfront cost (diesel and allison is around 8K itself) that a 250/2500 with gas may be what I am looking for. Also, I would not be driving the truck much during the week so a diesel sitting in the driveway isn't doing it any good and may in fact be a detriment to it.
Any other thoughts, opinions are greatly appreciated. I have been very pleasantly surprised with the quick posts. Thank you!
