Why are you worried about a diesel sitting during the week? Diesels sit in farm equipment and many other applications like backup generators for months at a time. Diesel fuel is also more stable than gasoline with a 5-10 year storage life. If you have to have a truck sit, the diesel is a better choice than the gas truck.
My F350 is pretty much only used to go camping. If it sits for more than a couple of weeks I take it for a ride to make sure all the seals are lubed up. Besides I won't smoke my cigars in the house and it's an excuse to enjoy a cigar and a cup of coffee. The grandbaby enjoys the ride as well. :)
Also you can never go wrong buying the bigger truck. That way you are all set for the next trailer. ;)
