I purchased my '96 SRW 2500 in Nevada. To register it in California, I had to have it weighted. As I recall, DMV told me the weight fees are based on what the truck weight is. As it turned out, it weighed 6200 lbs and the fees were typical. If you qualify with a medical handicap, the weight fees are waved and you still are registered as commercial. That reduced my license fees by almost 50%. There are other benifits as well. I have the handicap plates on both commercial license trucks. They will only wave the weight fees on one truck.
