I do not understand why you would have a problem if we abide by your laws and do as they require. IMHO that is not trying to out smart anyone, and doing as the RCMP requires.

Plus, we don't come up to commit crimes, as you try to suggest.


To answer your last question, price out a ferry ride with a 40' motorhome.
Then call the tourist bureau of your Provence and tell them you hate US citizens coming up and spending money in your country.

In Canada hunting with a RESTRICTED WEAPON is not allowed. Thats why its RESTRICTED.

That's not quite correct Mike.

Hunting is absolutely an acceptable reason for importing a firearm, HOWEVER, the firearm you are importing must be suitable for the task, you must be an accredited hunter, you must be traveling only to a hunting area during hunting season.

I have many American friends who come to Canada to hunt, rarely do I hear anything but that they breezed through the border.

I also have a few friends who are competitive shooters who come up for matches here, some bring their own pistol, some borrow one from a Canadian friend here.

Again, as long as all their paperwork, not just the above form, is complete and in order.

Think we were referring to handguns (restricted weapons). If it is not a restricted weapon, I don't believe (from my research anyways), you need an authorization to transport a NON restricted weapon. In that case, sure, hunting would be a reason. The authorization to transport appears to only apply to RESTRICTED weapons, and that form appears to have to be approved by the CFO prior to transport.

Or, are you saying you can just fill out the form, say you are hunting, and transport a RESTRICTED weapon for that purpose?

There are a few reasons in block 8.. none of which are self defense, or hunting (as I stated). But, there is an 'other' selection so I assume one could put hunting and hope the CFO approves it. Shooting matches is an authorized reason.

Is there anything that says, with the proper form, they have to allow you to travel with your gun, or can they just say no because they feel like it? If you show up with, let's say a shotgun and the paperwork, what are you going to do if they say no?

I wouldn't waste my time with the forms and no I wouldn't try to take a firearm in without permission. I've been known to bend a rule or two, but that's one I won't touch. I have a friend who forfeited his TC because of a "forgotten" pistol.
