IF towing you need to declare GVWR (Truck & trailer weights combined)

That means 'Category C'-----$546

Yea, I saw that. For now it's just the TC. I have read in other forums that RV trailers don't count. But when we get a fifth wheel we may need to change the reg.

My last truck was a 2004 Dodge Dually that we have travelled all over CA and other states well over 10k and never had issue or encountered police pulling rv's over to weigh them. (or read about it online)

Since it seems the spirit of the law is focussed on vehicles used for commerce it would be nice if the DMV addressed it specifically. i.e.: trailer is defined as any towable whether used for profit/hire or privately owned used for recreation. From what I have read online in various forums today it seems like people have been given different interpretations from their DMV.

You have to wonder if CHP or local law enforcement officers definitions also vary. Private trucks hauling TC's or towing RV's are not required to pull through scales, so I wonder under what circumstance I would be cited, and by who?
