Cabin Filter

Looking on some of the Ford forums, it appears none of the older Super Duty trucks had a cabin filter. I don't believe a paper element filter is going to do anything to filter exhaust gasses. Have you tried moving the A/C from the outside intake to the "recirculate" mode to limit the fumes?

When you get in heavy traffic or behind vehicles generating a lot of exhaust fumes, change the HVAC to the recirc mode and it will start recirculating the inside air instead of bringing in the outside air thru the fresh air intake.

When traveling, if I see a lot of dust or smoke ahead or a car/truck puffing smoke I change mine to recirc mode before I get there to keep that dust/smoke from coming in the fresh air intake.

According to this, your 2004 Ford F350 has a cabin air filter.

The cabin filter was an option. If you have it, it's behind the glove box but accessible under the dash here. Ford came out with a retrofit kit to add the filter but it is discontinued (pn F65Z-18D477-AA).

X2 - we call it the stink button.

Had a 2009 Hyundai Azera and it would automatically close off the outside vents when it sensed "polluted" air. Many times it would change sitting at red ligjts, I guess it didn't like exhaust smells. That was an amazing car until the traany crapped out at 120000 miles and the cheapest tranny was $4500.

Cabin air filers won't help with "gasses", only particulate matter (dust and the like).

Last night after work I looked under the glove box in my truck. There was a panel down there with two screws holding it in and I thought I might be in luck. So I pulled it off and discovered another panel with hex head sheet metal type screws holding it in. However, two of those screws are located way up(10") behind the glove box area. My wife came home about then and we went off to dinner.

Now, just thinking about the location of those two screws makes me think there is NO filter behind them. I'll need to lose a lot of weight in order to get my arm way up in that narrow area where the screws are located. It just seems to me that Ford wouldn't make it THAT difficult to change the filter, so I'm thinking there is no filter.

I don't think my 2012 F 250 has a cabin air filter, at least I have not been able to find one.

Our 02 and 03 GMC cabin filters are located in the trash.
