I was hoping to get a little input or "shove" if we are off track. We are trying to find what size tt our truck can tow. I can't get the truck to a weigh station till this weekend, so we are using Google math. :) 2012 Ford 150 supercrew 3.5L V6 Ecoboost and tow package Three kiddos (10, 7, 4), two adults, and two dogs GVWR 7200GCWR 15500Max loaded trailer weight rating 9600Max tongue weight rating for our hitch 1000GVW 5615 (internet) + 790 (rounded up us and the dogs) = 6405GVW of trailer ?Trailer tongue ?Tongue weight % we chose 10%With these numbers we got that a max trailer weight of 7950 and a max tongue weight of 795. Look about right? I understand it is all a balance game, but we need a range to start our trailer search. Thank you for any help or shoves! :)

You can look on the yellow door sticker to get your actual payload rating.That's the problem with 1/2-tons, especially SCREWs with passengers - you run out of payload real quick.You'll be close and probably over. You might make a lightweight 25' bunkhouse work.

Check your door jamb sticker for payload. Minus all people and stuff in the truck and the remainder will be your tounge wt limit. Say you have 1500# minus 700 for ppl and gear leaves 800# for tounge. Tounge is about 13% of trailer so 800/.13 = about 6200# loaded tt.

The sticker says the payload is 1327.

Don't believe the tongue weight in the advertising brochures. My 590 actually weighs 860 ready to go.

1327 as equipped payload - estimated weight of passengers *6.5 for dry weight. Payload is you limit as it is given such that the sum of weight on the axles shall not exceed it.. That includes people, cargo in the bed and cab, and trailer tongue weight.

The "R" stands for rating and that is the max weight for any of the particular items we are concerned with.

You want to make sure that you stay at or under the "rating" weight because well... that's what it is rated for.

At one point a while back we had a factory rep doing a training class for the sales here at the dealership and he even went as far as saying that a 10% increase over the rating could result in a drastic 50% decrease in lifespan. Point is - don't take the ratings for granted. They are there for a reason and most of it is safety.

Yes if these are the weights from the scales then post the RGAWR from your door tag... Thats rear gross axle rating...

Well all good but you need both axle weights... If you did not get that your wasting your time...

We need rear axle weight .....And what you had in the truck with this weight....( I guess we know this already)

But separate axle weights period.....

I weighed the truck today~twice. Got distracted on the way home and forgot to fill up the tank. With a full tank, three kiddos (4,7,10), two dogs (one is 6 month lab) it weighed 6180lb. I need to add the weight of myself and my husband and some buffer to compensate for the puppy and kiddos that will only get bigger.

I'm feeling better about options and I know I will really sigh some relief when I have an actual figure for a tt max. Then I can wrap my mind around what we can handle. Gonna play with the numbers tonight and gain a better idea.

The coachmen Freedom Express model 254 would work.

Not with a 855 lbs dry tongue weight it wont...

Look at Coachmen Rv We just purchased a Freedom Express model 246rk and love it. This is our 4th Coachmen in 30 years.Never had any major problems with any of them.
This trailer tows behind my 2013 Ford f150 like a dream.

He has three children FYI.. There is no coachman model light enough like the TT you own..Or the floor plan for his family and dogs...

The jayco buck house is about the best for his family IMO.. ( I own coachman too. The only other TT I would own is a Jayco)

I would not trust the payload capacity number on the sticker on the door pillar. Many find that their actual capacity is less than what it says, including us (and by A LOT).

The best thing you can do is go to a scale with your TV all loaded up for camping, complete with kids, spouse, pets, groceries, camping gear, etc. and a full tank of fuel. You could be in for a surprise.

It's seems like Ford and GM have been fudging their numbers by using stripped down versions for curb weight as discussed on the TV forum. Ford and GM fudging payload?

You will more than likely run out of payload capacity well before tow capacity and GCWR.
