- wrenchbenderExplorerI have done it both ways with my Bigfoot and I do not recommend it for anything over 40 ft Loa.My TT is only 17ft long.
- hvacExplorerWe did it with a 28ft Airstream. It is hard on the tow vehicle and coach. But a beautiful drive.
- colliehaulerExplorer IIIPersonally I would not do it. Fun on a motorcycle or sports car though.
- downtheroadExplorerAs usual...it all depends.
I loved it...it was an adventure
My wife hated it....it was terrifying.
Either way it's slow going and you can't just cruise. You have to get up on the wheel and concentrate hard the whole way. - ktmrfsExplorer IIwe've done hiway 1 in our truck. IMHO if you want a nice drive, enjoy the scenery etc. it is a perfect road in a roadster, bike, sports car. ok in a truck/car. It is not a drive I'd do with a trailer/motorhome. NOt because it can't be done, it just for us takes away from the drive. you'll find almost no spots you can pull off for sightseeing. and you'll have traffic behind you.
Next time we will go north to south in my SL500 roadster with the top down. - It ALL depends on your confidence and comfort towing. When I tow it's no different then driving solo. When I back up with or with out a trailer, it's the same thing. I've pulled backhoes with dump trucks down that highway and wouldn't think twice about pulling my trailer down the road............matter of fact, my wife just made reservations at the Julia Phfifer(or however it's spelled!)State Park. The only thing that would make me not want to go is a storm. The rocks come down the hills,(cliffs actually)pretty dang speedy. Road closures from slides are common during storms.
- dalehelmanExplorerIf you do you will wish you didn't. Going north you are against the rocks. Going south you are on the cliffs
- Dennis_SmithExplorerMore fun to park and drive it. Just did it last week. Stayed in Monterey, drove down to Hearst castle and back in about 7 hours. Made it a point to stop at every pull out and take photos. Even saw 7 California condors. And there are only about 250 in the wild. Got there numbers and looked up where they were born etc
- Passin_ThruExplorerNAH! Go for it! I drove a Peterbilt and sets of doubles up it with building material.
- OutdoorPhotograExplorerDon't do it. Disconnect and drive it for the view.
