Calling weight police - help

Hello,

I am in the process of getting a new setup, truck and 5th wheel. Truck is a 2022 F350 King Ranch 4x4 SRW short bed Diesel. Fifth wheel is 2021 Solitude 378mbs. I am also planning to add Summo spring helpers as I used these before with my F150 and they worked great.

There will be 2 Adults and a 60 lb dog traveling most of the time. Nothing on truck bed except for a few chairs. We may add an expansion gas tank down the road 30-40lbs in the bed. It is not a must have.

I would like to avoid the duallies but I don't want to be a fool either.

Can someone give me some more feedback on this topic? We take delivery of the truck soon as well as fifth wheel so nothing 8s in stone at the moment.

    How do you get from 2686 dry pin weight to 3800 load. That is about 1/2 of the carrying capacity of the of the trailer. Do you really think that much will go on the pin.

    Taking dry weights it has 18.7% dry pin weight. Carry the percentage forward to 16800 GVWR of the trailer give 3146 lbs of loaded pin weight.

    If pin weight increases to 20 percent load, the 3360 would be the pin weight fully loaded.

    Now we need to talk about generators and washer/dryer. W/D prep is in the nose, and generator well ahead of the axles.

    I made this work with my 16K 39'4" Bighorn because it had a 2435 dry pin weight with our 2015 RAM SB 4X4 3500 SRW with 11,700 GVWR and 7K RGAWR. And we were loaded heavy as full timers at that time.
  • The weight police recommend a dually if you tow any thing more than a pop-up, " because you can never have enough truck" did you expect any other answer?

    Depends what you mean by "2 Adults and a 60 lb dog traveling most of the time". 2 adults and a dog don't mean squat when figuring payload. Do you mean most of the time as in sometimes, there will be different number of people and dogs or you'll be traveling most of the time?

    If I was spending the princely sum, that tht truck will cost you, I'd want to get it right too!

    If it's a daily driver/commuter/whatever mostly and a tow rig for that trailer occasionally, I'd go srw 100%.
    If the scales are flipped and that truck's primary goal in life will be to tow a big 5ver, I'd 90% get a dually.
  • My brother in law just took delivery of his 2022 F350 lariat, 6.7, 4x4 , Short bed.. his payload sticker is 3600# as the truck sits.....

    Deduct the fifth wheel hitch 150#... wife - 120#- dog -60#.. that's 330# to deduct off the 3600 before you even get to the trailer....

  • I don't like dually trucks but sometimes the safe way is to buy one.
  • I would recommend getting the dually with the 8' bed. The dually will give you a more stable ride and you won't have to worry about the weight after you add the extra fuel tank.
