Camp P82 - 2015 - Trip Report

2015 Camp P82 Trip Report

“Camp P82 is a non-profit 501c3 Christian Missions Ministry designed and dedicated to providing children and youth who come from difficult circumstances an opportunity first, to hear about the life changing message of Jesus Christ, and secondly, an opportunity to attend an overnight camp. We want to give these students a camping experience they may not otherwise have the opportunity to receive due to various reasons. Thus, students attend camp free and are supported by scholarships of others who desire to support a camper for a week. “

Neighbor came over needing my help while I was packing. The nearly 7’ long snake was tangled in a fish net in her garage. I cut the net away from it’s head while she held the main body of the snake. She said it was her first time to ever touch a snake. She is a veterinarian assistant.

Loaded and ready to go after work – 240 mile trip from office to camp

Counselor strategy meeting before campers arrived

Indoor facility (60’ x 100’) is still under construction but was used extensively as it rained EVERY day.

Testing our swinging platform for a game of war. We envisioned a pit full of alligators or a cauldron of fiery lava underneath. The boys loved the challenges.

Other than the gymnasium area, the multipurpose building contains a new air conditioned kitchen, rest rooms with showers, a group meeting area, two bedrooms, and a laundry room. My first year cooking for the camp was under the trees and using my TC for hot water, etc.

The swinging ball. Young boys are challenged by many of the activities and overcome fears as they participate. I wanted alligators but only had the local water snakes!

A new floating mat 6’ x 15’ was added for water recreation. The boys enjoyed the various games they devised for this ‘island’ in the pond.

Trying to slip through the floating target.

The 60+ year old counselor showing the youngsters how it is done!

The Camp host completing the water slide and slipping through the target. Cory is like 6’ 7” tall and weighs about 270.

Snickers was my pal during the week. She obeyed very well when I banned her from the kitchen and my recliner. It was just those looks she gave me! She was fed well along with the boys.

This is the group of boys and counselors that I cooked for during the week of camp.
  • Jim,
Outstanding..an opportunity to truck camp and share the life saving "Word" from our Lord and Saviour with some young impressionable men. And, from those pics it looks like you all had a great time. Blessings to you for sowing some seeds that will hopefully germinate now or in the future. God Bless You brother!!

  • Jim, what you do is a real blessing for these youngsters. What people on this forum probably don't know is that this is just one of many volunteer commitments that you perform. Our collective hats are off to Jumbojet.
  • Thank you for giving your time and energy to this project. And for saving the snake.
