Factor in the cost/insurance/camp fees/fuel costs/all ownership costs/etc of truck/camper vs a Holiday Inn Express...pool...free breakfasts....play house...tennis court with a great dine in restrauant..
Most people don’t buy a TC to be cost efficient. I didn’t buy the truck for a TC only although it works for that, too. Your thoughts on the math are really a nonfactor for those of us who don’t buy a new truck just to pull a TC. Fwiw, the 2 days was going to be about 1K, and we still needed to drive there an eat for a couple of days.
My TC is 15 years old and has been a lot of places where no hotels exist. Not to mention, the hotels in the middle of some parks like Yellowstone are very, very expensive for “ok” accomadations “if” they are actually available. Most of the time, you can find a spot or two. So, you have to figure in the flexibility as well.
Of course, you also don’t have a hotel in the middle of Hayden Valley or Larmar Valley to take a nap or simply enjoy a nice lunch along many other roads or rivers with a nice view. Of course, there are also very limited restauratants on the way to where we go. So, a lot more than cost factors in.
It’s ok though, I bought a used 22 ft TT for 10K in good shape to pull behind for the next trip. Doubling down … must make your cost calcuations in your mind go wild. :D
