OK...now my question is why do you spend about the same amount for something you have to cut fit and struggle with, when you can buy a mat designed and cut to shape for your particular bed?
Now as for insulation value, I can't beleive they are much diferent in R value...it is dense rubber mat with little air space so the conductivity is high, transfer of thermal units either low (cold) or high (heat). Insulation needs low conductivity and/or air space within the material to give it a higher R-value...it does get a whole lot more technical, but I just don't remember it all, as I have been out of the energy conservation methodolgies, inspection and code enforcement for 25+ years. So the only advantage I can see from the horse mat is that it may be a bit thicker than the pre-made pick-up bed mats...but then again I saw that there was 1/2" thick horse mats as well. Plus the premade ones I have seen allow for good bed drainage as the bottom has small buttons/bumps to keep airflow and water moving...oh well! To each there own...I just have a hard time seeing any advantage! BTW the weight of each type is probably within pounds of each other. No advantage there either!
Thx for posting the pictures it does help to actually see what folks are reffering to...so many ask questions for help and don't show a pic of their situation...Seems ODD, if you want the best results answer-wise.
Now back to the shifting issue: My TC has some wide bits that fit snugly near the bed tail posts so I added some plastic rub strips on the posts and plastic wedge type plates on the sides of the TC tub protursions...it became self-centering along with the Happi-jack front tie down guides...no problem keeping it where she belongs...I did a posting on this many years ago...can't find it! Sorry.
