camper tie downs

Off topic, it's on a Dodge. The front Torklifts were easy to install. On the drivers side because of the fuel tank you only have access to one side of the boxed frame.

I did this because it blocked the fuel door.

Happijac tiedown brackets have worked great for me on my GMC for the past three years. However, I did go with Torklift Fastguns for ease of use. Torklift also makes an excellent tiedown system, however a couple of things swayed me away. They would have blocked my fuel door, and there are extra pieces to deal with each time I remove/mount my camper on the truck.

I was always glad I went with TL after seeing a rear twisted bumper on a truck up in Alaska a few years back. He had the rear HJ system and the one side of his bumper was twisted up like a pretzel. He obviously at one point put a lot of stress on that side somehow, but with my luck Id end up doing something similar eventually.

Happijac in front, Torklift in rear.
Best of both worlds when front Torklift interferes with fueling....which is common.

I've never had HJ tie downs, so I have no idea. How thick is that flimsy bracket?

I ask this because I'm pretty sure the Torklift tubes aren't any thicker than .095 or .120. In the realm of things, that's a pretty flimsy tube.



To answer the original question, I like my Torklift because they bolt on. I did have to drop my fuel tank a little for one bolt on my Ford though.

If I had a lightweight popup camper on a dedicated offroad pickup, I'd have the Happijac for sure for clearance.

We have the Hapijack system on our Chevy 3500 Duramax and address satisfied with them. That being said, you'd better check the rear bumper supports/reinforcement as our truck is an 04 year model and the bumpers were stronger back then. One cost effective option is HJ in front and TKL in back. As others have said, lovers and haters both ways, but the bottom line is your budget and personal preference, what works for you, your pocketbook and your vehicle.
