We have not camped with other families in many years. When we first started camping in the PU some 20 years ago, we were always going with either friends or relatives. While it was good for the kids to hang out with other kids, it just became so cumbersome to plan anything and go places. Some were early risers, some slept until noon, and so on. My MIL insisted on eating lunch at 11 am, and my BIL always wanted to eat later.
Now it is usually just me and my wife, and sometimes one or both of my older daughters will come with us (even then they usually drive themselves and meet us at the CG). We are contemplating having our best friends come with us next month and stay in out TT, since we now have double-size bunks that adults could actually sleep in. The problem is that the wife snores REALLY loud, and the husband needs to use a CPAP machine due to sleep apnea. So we're not sure how this is going to work out....
PS - regarding kids getting sick - my kids always seemed to get sick when we went on camping trips when they were little. It was usually an ear infection that caused them to scream in pain, and me packing up the PU at 2 in the morning to go home early. One time we met family members in Florida, and my daughter got so sick she threw up inside our van. I can remember my younger brother (who wasn't even married yet) freaking out when she threw up next to him. LOL
