Yes! Absolutely! You’ll drop in the truck rear but not that much…2 inches. I level with air bags. I do think your tongue weight is too light. Shoot for 13 to 15 percent.

Load up the truck and trailer as if ready to camp and weigh everything. You may not need a WDH.

I would do it, but use caution/common sense, as to towing speed and traffic conditions. Your receiver should give a dead wt for hitch capability. You may be close, or over a bit, and that tongue weight may be higher than brochure states. If windy, may cause a little sway, so be aware. Pretty simple. If a peril isn’t covered on your insurance policy, it has to be listed in the policy exclusions.

So, for what you claim to be true, the policy would have to have a stated exclusion of “towing weight in excess of the tow vehicles published maximums”. I’ve never seen or heard of such a exclusion, but the OP is welcome to to check their policy (as are you).

And as far as “lawyers having a field day”, isn’t that what lawyers do? People can sue for anything. That doesn’t mean they will win.

Please stop perpetuating this false claim.

When I first started Rving over 30 years ago, there was no internet, and info was not so easy to get. So I had some seat of the pants lessons, that almost soiled said pants. In my experience most trouble can be avoided by keeping the speed WAYYYYY down. No highways. and under 30 MPH!! Sway for me started at about 40-45 MPH, and is scary beyond words.

So I would advise getting a proper hitch setup, or limping it home on side roads. Your 2 hour trip should grow to 4 hours.... A REAL word of caution. When I had my sway event, it felt fine, up to the point that it was NOT. There was no warning at all. The trailer brake controller saved my bacon.... YOU NEED one of those!

You should be able to buy a weight distribution hitch and friction sway control bar for about $300. You may be able to pickup a used system at your local rv dealer. Good luck in your search.

I have same truck, same type trailer.
I wouldn’t take a drive without WDH.
I use an Andersen hitch, absolutely perfect drive.
Can you do it? Sure. Will you make it home? More than likely. I see people doing stupid stuff with trailers all the time.
Me? I’m careful and try to eliminate stupidity from my life because I like my life.

Well I have a 19 Silverado 1500 5.3 and I don’t have anything on back of truck right now it’s just a black square opening that I would THINK is attached to the frame. Sorry for being so naive on this hitch thing

You will be fine with that lite weight trailer for a 2 hour drive. You will be under all gawr/gvwr weights so no rv website lawsuit myth or DOT issues.
Pump the trucks P rear tires to 44 psi max sidewall and enjoy the trip.
The trip will be a good test trip to see if the combo handles to your likes/expectations.

This has been debunked many times here, and shame on bgum for perpetrating this myth. Watch your speed and you'll be fine. When you get it home and get it packed up the way you like it, then ten get a WD hitch and take it to the scales and get it all dialed in. know that you've got a wild beast by the tail on the way home and drive accordingly. Slow and steady keeps it out of the ditch.

I would advise against what you propose. You have no sway control and exceed the hitch capacity. If you do get in an accident your insurance could deny any claim on your behalf. Others attorneys would have a field day in court.
