- Eric_LisaExplorer III have the exact same box mounted on my 2003 Lance. The wires were installed, but not connected to anything inside the camper. I put in a speaker A/B switch box on the rear channel of my head unit. When used in conjunction with the head unit's fader, I can turn off all the interior speakers and just have the outside ones live. I picked up a speaker box at Walmart for something like $20 years ago. It travels nicely in the space next to the bed. I made myself a patch cable to easily hook it up.
My latest thing has been using a Raspberry Pi as a wireless access point, media server, and AirPlay server. With around 800GB of music on a 1TB external HD, all running off 12v, I can sit out in the sticks and DJ music off my iPad around the campfire. But that is a different story....
-Eric - Ranger_TimExplorerThese are indeed RCA connectors colored in the basic audio L/R configuration. While typically used for high impedance "line" outputs they have been used in the past for low impedance speaker connection. These connectors are often found as speaker connectors on "low-fi" or bargain stereo sets. They are not the best for speaker connection because they are not really large enough for 18-14 ga. wire or the transfer of enough current to drive speakers well. Speakers do not need shielded cables either, so the connector is probably being chosen more for convenience (plug and play) in this instance. They will meet your needs for speaker connection as long as the output is actually a low impedance amplified audio signal. RCA jacks are often repurposed to other uses so be careful with whatever you connect. Measuring the voltage between the tip and ring should tell you whether it is amplified or not.
- HarryBBExplorerMKIRSCH - I have the same plugs on my Lance. 1.) they are factory install 2) they are for speakers 3) I do have a set of headphones - albeit 40 yrs old - that will plug into them one channel at a time 4) I also have external speakers with the male counterpart to these plugs that work quite nicely for R&L channels.
PS: I'm not a technician. There is nothing fancy going on with these. - mkirschNomad IIAbout the only person who MIGHT have headphones wired with RCA jacks would be an audio technician, and if the OP were an audio technician, I really don't think he'd be asking this question.
That's not something you walk into an everyday store like Walmart or even Radio Shack and buy.
To solve the mystery of what these are really for, you need to look inside and find/follow the wiring. - BumpyroadExplorerStandard red/white for L/R speakers which is the only thing that really makes sense in this location?

Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowe's will have them too, at better prices.
ebay amazon to - TamnativeExplorerMy guess is that they were put there by the previous owner or the factory for exterior speakers. They are RCA jacks like mentioned in the previous posts.

My guess is you will hear right channel on one and left channel on the other assuming you have a cd or dvd player or TV set up inside.
- markowwesExplorerWhere is that plug? They may be for a back up camera, check for voltage with a meter before you jack anything into them.
