- poppin_freshExplorerI know in my TT the low point drain is about 10 inches, and 'T'ed off from the water inlet of the water heater.
When I drain the low point, it will drain all but a very small amount from the heater. Pulling the plug will probably not drain much more since the plug itself is not much more off the bottom than the low point drain. - thomasmnileExplorerDon't know the make/model of your TT's water heater but it may be possible depending on the plumbing layout. Our Jayco WhiteHawk has an Atwood water heater. The bottom of the tank is actually an inch or two below the drain plug. The trailer has two low point drains between the galley and bath. When opened one is draining hot water (as in steaming if the water heater had been recently running)the other is draining cold water. I never remove the drain plug now, simply open sink and kitchen faucets fully and the drain valves.

I was draining my hot water tank tonight and I also decided to open up the low point drains after I finished draining the tank. So I started thinking, can I drain my hot water tank using the low point drain? This would be much easier than removing the plug.
I replaced the plugs with valves for quick easy draining after every trip. Thus, I don't leave water in the tank (water heater and fresh water tank alike) unless we're camping or about to go camping. - tatestExplorer III can drain mine from a low point drain, so it may depend on the plumbing.
I don't do this to avoid removing the plug, as the plug comes out anyway for cleaning. I drain it first so water doesn't come out as I am removing the plug. - LynnmorExplorerDepending how your plumbing is laid out you may be able to drain most of the water. On mine it works if I open the relief valve.
