Can I Please Get a Towing Reality Check?

TV: 2010 F150 Screw, 145" bed, 4.6 3v, 3.55, tow pkg, curb 5167, GVWR 6900, payload 1680, GCWR 14,900, max trailer wt 9400.

Proposed TT: Salem Hemisphere 282RK, dry wt 6740, hitch 700.

My calculations: TV curb 5800 w/WD hitch, TT loaded 7700, hitch wt 924 (12%).

This leaves 176 under my GVWR. The TT would be 180 over the 80% rule.

What do y'all think? TIA

I'm not sure where you got your calculations, but I'd be very surprised if a 6740 dry trailer scaled at only 7700. My guess is it'll be closer to 8500.

For reference, my trailer's dry weight is listed at 5800, but the scale says 7500.

Thanks. I was going by our previous experience with a Springdale 266RLS. The dry was 5800 and we scaled at 6700, so I was adding about a 1000 to the dry weight.

Is it a new TT, and if it is new or near new. It will have a Yellow sticker telling you exactly what the trailer weighes sitting on the lot, as it left the factory, including Battery, and empty propane tanks And adding 1000 lbs to that is a pretty safe estimate. So there is no reason a yellow stickered dry weight of 6700 should turn into more than 7700. Not every one loads their TT to the max. The average is actually less than 1000lbs. Made that high because of those who are married to Lucy, and let her collect rocks
Thar being said. That is still a lot of weight for your Truck.
  • Teamfour...

Try it... will probably be sufficient for short weekend
hops. You have a very nice truck , ... depending on your towing
needs it is possible you will be changing it out in the future.

I am currently in a similar situation... my truck is a hauling
beast for my current needs...but retirement is around the corner,
with plans for longer hauls up/down greater grades...so I'm
saving my sheckels... and will, as we all seem to, go
larger. I knew this going in... I just need this rig to hang on
    until time to rotate.

Unless you have plans to upgrade TV in near future I wouldn't do it (based on truck payload rating) . Don't forget the 100 lb hitch, camping gear in bed, passenger weight, etc. The 4.6 is going to be struggling.

That is included in my curb weight: passengers, hitch, and bikes.

    X2

That is a lot of trailer for that engine, it will pull it, but you will struggle in the hills living in Virgina you will likely encounter many hills.

  • Oh she'll pull it! You're not gonna like it, and she's gonna hate it, but she'll pull it...for awhile. You got an extended drive train warranty???

Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!:)
  • Reality is that weight wise you will be OK, but that 4.6 engine will stuggle, especially on any hills, or long trips.
