- LessmoreExplorer IIIs that what they mean by the dangers of too much tongue weight ?
- rode2nowhereExplorerhammer, crow bar, good as new
- HannibalExplorerWith a 3975 lb dry weight to start plus however much junk was loaded in it for the truck camper and then whatever the tongue weight of the trailer, I'm thinking it was probably way overloaded. Then toss in road salt for those Washington winters and Washington's buck board interstates. If it was set up for a traveling business, probably a whole lotta miles loaded like this with, as BenK says, harmonic vibrations and the result is evident.
- BenKExplorerJeremiah...that is such a GREAT example of band-aiding it and not solving the root cause...
- jerem0621Explorer IIIIRC the man had the frame straightened, reinforced, and carried on. Probably still out there doing this.
Scary.
Thanks!
Jeremiah - BenKExplorerLaws of physics...flexing/bending/etc All THINGS FLEX...it depends on a few things in reference to that object in discussion. AKA "Tin Canning" to break something or not...that is determined by the design to not allow the object to go past it's plasticity range and go into the deformation range
A component to that is the rigidity of that object and the biggie: harmonics and the first/secondary/tertiary/etc frequency/amplitude
Amplitude is the force or in this case, part of that force is the weight being tossed around by the harmonics - Camper_GExplorerCould have been a bad/rusty frame too. Although that is a huge truck camper
- ScottGNomadI've seen repo trucks running around with the start of that kind of damage.
- horton333ExplorerYou'll never see that much chassis flex on a car. ??
