My Alpenlite is 100% useable with the slideout in, although it does reduce the width at the entry door a bit.
If we're just making a quick stop for lunch or a potty-break then we don't bother to extend the slide... also if overnight temps are much below freezing then we sometimes sleep with the slide in.
