This^^
Though early reports seem good, they are just that. Early.
At this point I would still consider them experimental for real world use.
My ST tire experiments ended around 2006. I spent far too much money trying to get STs that would work. At that time I bought into the marketing hype, and the constant theme here on the forums that I was doing something wrong to be having all those failures.
I ultimately found that what I was doing wrong was spending $$$$ on ST tires.
I made the jump to LTs and the failures stopped cold. I no longer give my tires much thought. They just flat out work... Just like they should.
Maybe this new crop of supposedly improved ST tires will prove themselves over time.... But it won't be with my money.
These are the same companies that touted the benefits of their previous ST tires as they cheerfully took my money. - TxGearheadExplorer III replaced 3+ year old Maxxis with the new Carlisle HD. No issues at all with the Maxxis. Deciding factors were the good reviews and cost. WalMart had the 235 80 16 priced on line for $77 and Discount Tire matched it.
- prichardsonExplorerI feel the jury is still out. Both the Goodyear Endurance and Carisle HD are too new to know if either will handle ageing any better than previous ST tires.
- JIMNLINExplorer IIIFive years ago Carlisle had nothing but the very problematic Radial Trail series that set records for tire complaints on NHTSA complaints website.
Then in early '13 Carlisle came out with the much improved RH series and in '16 the new HD.
Carlisle has been around making niche tires like the ST tire and IMO they now have a much improved tire in the HD. However time and miles will tell us just how good they are. - nypatnvaExplorerWOW! Five years ago, if you mentioned Carlisle tires, you would almost get kicked off the forum.
- APTExplorerReplaced Maxxis with the Carlisle HD Spring 2016. So far so good.
- camperfamilyExplorerPut them on last year and traveled 5000 miles, plus another 2k after that. So far all is good. Went from LR D to E.
- Hector_BravoExplorerMy first season with them...so far so good. ????
- JIMNLINExplorer IIIThe Carlisle HD has only been out around a year so you won't get any high mileage long term reports. Of course any tire less than a year old should have glowing reports.
If I was going with a ST tire on a trailer the Carlisle HD would be one of my top picks. - NosediveExplorerI've had them for over a year now. About 5,000 miles on them without issues and most of those miles are along the coast in the heat of summer. I really like the 81 mph speed rating, not that I'm going that fast but I do usually run right at 70 mph so it's a comfort having that cushion. I overkilled also and put Load Range E on out camper. I know looks of a tire aren't everything either, but they really look like a heavy truck tire whereas typical trailer tires always look flimsy.
