And yeah, from where I sit, there is some sort of agenda...The not wanting to be wrong kind....I was once on the other side of this issue too. Kinda hard to accept that I was wrong all those years, but I was. Wish I had seen the light earlier, it would've saved me a lot of cash and aggravation. The one thing I can say....I gave the ST tires a more than fair shot.

That would be great but read my post about the ST tire, I have and am on no side period… I am neither a friend or foe of Vanco tires and was responding to another’s post, if I recall I was prompted to e-mail about Vanco because someone claimed Vanco told him something that is not in any online information and I have read all of it that I could find… let’s not forget I too am traveling on ST tires and constantly searching for the best alternative for myself to… if sharing what I have learned with others that maybe don’t know and it conflicts with what you believe is an agenda, then you are right I have an agenda but the accusation made by Jim is completely wrong and I will defend myself against any false accusation… there is a difference between wanting to be right and posting without knowing you are right and worse posting just plain false information…
So before you make personal accusations do your own due diligence on my real and IMO unbiased position on the ST tire… while you are at it everything I have said about the Vanco tire come from their official website and you can find it to….

Yes the right tire would be true for every application from the bike to the earthmover…
it just too often not what others offer or recommend on these forums…

Of interest to the OP hopefully is the Carlisle was incorrectly identified as a American made tire, and they have known that the cap ply is an essential safety feature like other mfgs have since the 70’s and are just now adding it… since adding it and moving to China it has no track record to run on, only it’s marketing…

So if you don’t like my agenda you know you can block my post, or at least I think you can, I have never tried it…

There is one BIG difference that I have noticed on tires , ALL of the ST tires have stamped on them "for trailer use only" BUT ... NONE of the LT tires have any statement like " for truck use only " stamped on them . I have 3 light single axle trailers I use for work , I run st tires on them , simply because I run them at maybe 50% of their capacity and they rarely see over 50 mph plus I have 12 extra off my larger trailers . I have 4 larger dual axel trailers , a car trailer , a tank trailer , a equipment trailerand my 30 ft camper . Each weighs over 8000 lbs loaded , and each one has LT tires . These run the roads loaded at highway speeds. I cant take the chance with ST tires that " may " last.

My larger trailers are running at 80% of the tires rated capacity 100% of the time .
If I ran ST tires they would be running at 100% of the tires rated capacity 100% of the time .

The Vanco product line is very similar to the ST product line. Both tires have reinforcement which allows the tires to handle the weight of the Campers. We can only recommend original equipment fitments. As long as the Vanco tires you are interested in are the same size and share the same speed and load index as what came original equipment on your vehicle then the Vanco tires will work. Thank you for your interest in our products.

In a follow up phone call they were adamant and would only repeat the above canned answer… no recommendations were forth coming only if the tire should meet or exceed ALL OF the OE requirements they would work…
I will research this more but it seems like many of the same problems exist with them as there are changing to LT’s, like changing rims to match or better loads, but it opens up some options for som smaller wheels…

And just like switching to LT’s, if it’s not done right it opens up liability issues that can and should be avoided…."

Ok Jim you didn’t mention that the response from CapriRacer was related to another correspondence from Continental tire where they said they wouldn’t make a recommendation even though a recommendation wasn’t requested… and this post referred to here was a totally unsolicited second response to the earlier question…

That response was followed by the second unexpected and unsolicited post sent from XXXXX XXXXX Head of International Warranty, Central Customer Service, Tire Division, Continental… and sent to Continental Tire the Americas, LLC. To be forwarded to me for clarification… this was totally unexpected or solicited also, and it read…

We no longer manufacture ST tires, and the Vanco line is not a suitable alternative.
We would recommend searching for a dedicated ST tire line.

And this information is contained in the Continental tire website about the commercial Vanco tire line…

The information on their website and the information from either e-mail pretty much eliminate them as a viable alternative for use on our trailers, because virtually none of them would match the same size and share the same speed and load index as what came as original equipment on your vehicle…

YOUR ACCUSATION THAT I HAVE A AGENDA IS ASSININE AND WRONG… I to was looking to the euro commercial tires maybe being the answer we and I are looking for, and in the end maybe they will be…
The information was ONLY DIFFERENT than what you or other LT advocates want to convey so you choose to make a personal attack of the messenger…

I bring up the tire liability issues NOT for using a LT tire but from not using the right LT tire, and you know that is what I have always advocated… I don’t need a link to know the liability issue is real… I don’t need a link to prove to myself it is… you are free to choose to believe it or not and challenge me on it… but you are not, nor is anyone else here going to come to the rescue of anyone taking the wrong free advise…

first of all there was no loaded question on my part to get a desired answer, that is just plain ludicrous and I resent the remark!!!

I never mentioned, brought up, or suggested anything about liability…
Any fears about labiality they have as a company are fears they have justified, and for the same reason you should consider what they might be…
But the tire mfg. final word wasn’t do your homework at all nor did it sound like you be your own judge, it was a flat out rejection to the idea and I quote,

There is up grading and there is just taking a stab in the dark… like many recommend here…

To upgrade the tire must equal or better the load rating as stated on the tire placard on the trailer, and the tire must match the rim speciation’s including bead profile, rim width, PSI rating, and load ratings… then they need to fit under the trailer with sufficient clearances on all sides and between the tires… it’s not some mythical number…

It’s not enough to say a tire is rated for so many pounds so it should work… and being popular wouldn’t matter if you landed in court after an accident… recently it was reported by many on here that the Vanco 2 tires are a popular choice and used by many here… well here is what the tire mfg. said to the direct question about the Vanco commercial line of tires…

Also all position doesn’t always mean trailer positions with every manufacture and its wrong to make that claim…
some list steer only, and some drive only, while some say all position, it isn’t their position that it includes trailer tires, yet some do however indicate all position truck/ trailer tire…

it’s always your money, your choice, and your risk… no one here is going to back you when things go wrong…
if you change to LT tires it is far better to do it the right way, which is more involved, and that is seldom offered in forums like this… or follow the mfg. recommendations…
