I did my template a bit different. I got some stiff cardboard that Costco uses to protect layers of paper towels and laid them out on the floor against the edges the carpet would butt up to. Hot glued all the pieces into one pattern and traced around it on to back of carpet (be careful of a reverse image when you do it). Cut it out and bobs your uncle it fits.
