Update:
1. The dog took my boots to parts unknown! I'll have to go to the owners house and case the joint to find out where the dog' hides her stash.
2. Hot melt glue! We have a winner. I have lots of hot melt glue left over from my model train days.
3. Yes, we will have to be more careful about bringing wet or snowy footwear into the box, but i see that as a good thing.
4. I have been hesitant to walk in the box barefooted as I usually step right on a sharp little rock that hitched a ride in on my boots, wherever they are. This may change too.
Now if we could only develop more comfortable seating for those long winter nights.....in the box.
