This project has really gone downhill.
I got the 2” steel tubing to use and was ready to bolt the rack to the tubing.
The trial fit had me find out these dual front receivers are loose!
I stuck some 2” square tube into each receiver and noticed they weren’t lined up. It looked off. So I figured someone bottomed out and bent one of the receivers. I used the leverage of the long 2” tubing I had in the receiver to try to bend it back.
To my surprise, it was VERY EASY to move!!
The receivers aren’t part of a larger hitch setup and joined together. They are individual items each bolted to the frame. Poorly. There is a horizontal bolt they pivot on that allows you to move them vertically. There is an angle bracket toward the back of the receiver that is supposed to keep things in place and stop that pivoting. It’s moving too. Yet no nuts appear loose.
I’m unable to work outside in this heat very long so I can’t diagnose it and re-engineer it.
I’m thinking the next step is to go to a place that does hitches and just get the single front receiver installed. That way I don’t have to rebuild the motorcycle carrier too.
Anyone see any pitfalls here? Things that could go wrong?
The motorcycle carrier wobbles a lot in the rear receiver. I’m guessing it’ll be the same in a new single front receiver.
Any tips on keeping it from wobbling so much?
