Cassette Toilet vs Conventional RV Toilet

Cassette Toilet vs Conventional RV Toilet: Have you used both? If so, which do you prefer? Why?

  • Our tent camper had a cassette toilet and it worked, that's all. I would never want one in a TT.

Come back down to earth and imagine a basic porta-potty but built into the campers bathroom except for a removable 4-5 gallon tank that you can easily remove (from the outside, so no mess) and take to any bathroom, pit toilet or you can walk it over to the dump station without moving your camper to empty it. Lots of options.

I love my cassette toilet and the fact I can empty it almost anywhere rather than search for a dump station since I seldom camp in campgrounds with all the amenities.

  • I'm with WoodGlue on this one and would prefer the conventional rather than the cassette. It also fits my lifestyle better.
  • When I had a 5th wheel I preferred the conventional because the black tank had much more capacity than a TC. Now that I've got a TC and it's more mobile and it's just 2 people filling it, the cassette is working well and I've gained some extra storage space that I wouldn't have had. Haven't had any problems emptying the cassette and I don't have to search for dumping stations.

Having said that, if I get another TC and it doesn't have the cassette option, I don't think I'll miss it that much.
  • Cassette toilets are a PITA as far as I'm concerned. With a 6 or so gallon black tank that can be emptied into a regular toilet may have its upsides, it wouldn't fit with my RV lifestyle at all.
