My vent simply splices into the grey tank vent. (This was a factory install.)
I plan to replace the roof vent with one of these: 360 Siphon
Never seen a fly, but then we have screens on our camper.
My standard demo of the composting toilet is to open the flap and crank up the exhaust vent. Black tank users are amazed at the lack of odor. About the only way you can get a composting toilet to smell is to get too much water inside and this only happens if some urinates directly into the feces container (thus defeating the urine separating function) or if you have the toilet in a wet bath (as I do) and your seal is not good.
