I agree, it's redundant.
There are a lot of people who can't bring themselves to use the kitchen sink for anything but dishes. They think it's somehow unsanitary for example, to spit in the kitchen sink after brushing, then wash dishes there.
No amount of hot water, dish soap, and scrubbing will ever make it clean again. Doesn't occur to them that their spit is also all over the forks, spoons, and plates they wash in the same sink.
Isn't that just funny?! And to think I used to get baths in my grandparents kitchen sink. We too have never once used the tiny wet bath sink but actually prefer to use the kitchen sink for all sorts of reasons incl washing hair.
