Changing Axles

Been told that the reason one of the tires on my TT is wearing badly is because of a bent axle or spindle.

So has anyone ever replaced the axles on a TT? If one axle needs to be replaced, then why not just replace both axles with heaver duty axles?

Tried talking to a couple of RV repair shops but not sure about what they are telling me. New axles don't come with bearing, can't use same brakes and different hubs are/may be required. Plus they two shops said all axles have to be custom made for each trailer.

Does any of this sound correct?

Thanks,
Craig

  • Find a local shop that does alignments on heavy duty trucks and trailers and they can straighten the axle and align all 4 wheels for a lot less than replacing your axle.

RV shops are not capable of this type of alignment therefore only offer replacements.
  • Most axles have a tag or sticker that tells who made it and what it is. They will recognize the number and can make a new one.

However a spring and axel place can straighten and align your axles.
  • I installed custom axles that are heavier. Most are marginal from new. Contact Dexter, eTrailer or Redneck to have axles made. You can buy the bare axle or complete assemblies. You will need to know the face to face and spring to spring measurements.
