Changing size and shapes of windows

We have a 1973 Glendale Golden Falcon and plan to make it comfortable for the wife and I and not "restore" it faithfully. It is hot here in Arizona and we want different windows. Any helpful hints on changing from the louvered windows to new sliding windows, such as cutting out new shapes, or whether people make new windows in existing window sizes. Thanks.

  • Arizona RV salvage on 27th Avenue has hundreds of used windows. I replaced my 15" x 48" back window with a 44"x44" cargo door from their stock.

You will need to know the basic opening size before you go, as they have the windows stored up in a loft, and you cannot go pick through them yourself. Plan to spend an hour or so when there.

Most windows you will find there are curved edge, so you will either need to fill the curve in on your (presumably) square openings with blocks of wood or cut larger openings taking care not to damage existing structure. I taped up all the wood in the opening when I did this with good quality foil tape

Seal with Dicor sealant from the RV supply store like camping world or Little Dealer (LD has lower prices in their parts store then CW)
  • What's your objective with this window change ?
What are you trying to accomplish ?
  • This company has a lot of windows that will fit many openings or they will make one to your specs. They make most of the windows for major RV MFGs.

I Installed the EDWIN from them and was very happy with it.
  • Yes it can be done.

As far as changing frame shape, you'll need to find out what frame work is in the walls that you might have to change.

As for making the windows, we had that done. We've spent most of our time on the west coast so we went to Windows in Motion, in Vancouver, WA. They'll make you new frames in any size and shape you want, tinted glass, double paned and with high quality screens. They build and install replacement windows or custom windows for boats and MHs. We had all of the windows and frames (except windshields) on our DP.

I don't know if they'll actually cut or modify the RV walls though. Call Jeff.
