My smaller bedroom a/c made a terrible " shred up the roof " sound. I dont mean it blows hot air, or the compressor makes noise. I had to turn it off quick !! I need that a/c a.s.a.p and looked to Youtube. Somebody had a video, got up and checked his shroud and a/c. It had a hornets nest in the fan and it put it out of balance, thus the horrible sound he said, im hoping that is all i have to do, and blow out the fins with a compressor. I really want to avoid getting a new a/c if i didnt have to. Please tell me how to avoid the wasp if confronted. Or what to do ahead of time ---? Please advise.

Wasp spray, or you could do as my former neighbor did and swat them with your ball cap.

Your kidding, right ? You spray at them while they are attacking ?? Or they fly away when a hat is waved at them .?

I would go with Wasp spray also. Preferably early morning or late evening while they are still on the nest.If you do not know if you have them, spray into the AC from a safe distance and see what flies out.

I have it in my mind that they want to go after me if im disturbing their nest. Maybe they arent the vicious critters im thinking of.

Spray on them? Then they go away? Will there be a fight to the death, im worried. Its bad enough, as it is, that i have to go up on the roof

Attach it to the inside of the cover. I've had good luck with caulking. I ran a bead of caulking and pushed the mesh into it. I've tried epoxy which holds the mesh well, but the flex in the plastic caused it to crack and loosen over time. Good ole nuts, washers, and small bolts work well too.

keeping a can in the car can be risky. High interior temps when parked in the sun can cause it to explode. This would be bad if it happened when the car was unoccupied. Much worse if it happened with people in it.

You can have someone outside watch the A.C. Go inside and bang inside the A.C., especially on top, but use caution with the cooling fins. The person should see dome fly out if you have a nest. If you do, put a big black bag over it in the early AM and leave it in the sun during the hottest part of the day. Should kill a lot of them.

Find a neighborhood boy around 10-13 years old, give him $5 to do the job of finding out if there are wasps or not. If there are, toss him up the can of spray.

Ezee-Peezee! And you will only be out an extra five bucks!

That's not just talk either. I have given fellow campers a stupid amount of free repair assistance while traveling. If your husband couldn't get up there 2oldman and I would hold a catch blanket in case you fell :)
