The arguments about the grid not being able to handle all of the electric cars remind me of the arguments about opening up the Internet to general use in the 90s. (For a long time, it was primarily used by researchers and some government entities. I've been using it since the 80s.) The argument was that the infrastructure and technology could never handle the influx of vast numbers of new users and all of the traffic they would generate... There were similar arguments when people started streaming video. What people forget is that these changes don't happen instantaneously. As with the Internet, the change from gas to electric cars isn't going to happen overnight. It will phase in over a number of years, allowing the grid and power plant operators to see and respond to the changes.
