Chevy Avalanche question

A friend recently purchased a 2008 Avalanche as a tow vehicle for her new Keystone TT. Does anyone know if the charge wire to trailer is isolated (is the truck isolated from the trailer battery) when the ignition key is turned off?

Probably not. Chevy tends to not switch the charge line. It is hot all the time.
  • Chevy's generally aren't set up that way. It's probably hot all the time.

Is there a way to change that? My Titan was the same way when I got it used. A relay slipped into a vacant spot took care of that little issue.

Otherwise, the answer is of course, to uplug the truck from the trailer, and voila! Isolated!

If there is a way, I don't know how to change it.

Big green fuse under the hood.......take itout

There's more than one "big green fuse"

Nuisance to do that at every camping stop. It's far easier to unplug the umbilical cord.

You can have an RV dealer install a heavy duty solenoid, which is engaged only when the engine is running.

That's what all the Chevy and GMC truck owners that haul truck campers do.

Only hot if the underhood harness has been connected to the live stud and the 'big green fuse' has been installed.
Ex factory, this connection is NOT complete.
Once connected, it is NOT isolated with ignition off.
Pulling the umbilical will solve the problem, but an isolating relay is a better and permanent solution.
  • We have a 2012 Avalanche now and also had a 2003. When we stop on the road say for lunch, truck turned off, the TT is not pulling from the truck, only from the TT battery.
