- jerem0621Explorer IIHere is the GM Fleet Guide for 2016... says its the final... not sure if it is actually the final or not.
Fleet Guide
Says 11,000 GVWR... and Designed to accommodate up-armor applications.
Here is a screen shot... BTW.. maybe the first for the new 8 lug Suburban :D
Here is a Link
to the print book page where you can print off the specs of the 3500 Suburban.
11,000 GVWR and only 3,000 lbs towing.. this Suburban is not a TV... this is an armored vehicle/VIP Hauler.
Thanks!

No diesel! L96 (6.0L) with a 4.10 axle is the only powertrain offered.
Good for GM to pick up on a hole in the current market .....
Now give it some ballz and a real tow rating, or just hook up n go. Should be able to put a decent hitch on it for not much $. Can't see what else would hold back the tow rating of a 3500 series.
Edit: by ballz I meant a diesel! - kaydeejayExplorer

Hmmmm, mine worked after I posted (I checked it to be sure).
Kaydeejay, your link didn't work, try this one.
Now yours gives me an error as well.
Methinks GM has the 2016 Order guide offline for some reason right now.
(Maybe fixing those GVWR numbers :B)
It just worked for me (once!) but then died again.
I saw 12,700# GVWR with 4405# of payload:E
Can't be right with a 4900# FAWR and 6200# RAWR.
With a 12,700# GVWR and a curb weight of 6585# that would be almost 6000# payload. I don't think so!
But 6585# curb weight + 4405# of payload = 10,990#, which is within 110# of the sum of the axle ratings. Somewhat more believable!
Try here and select "2016" and "Cars and light trucks"
Click on "Truck"
Select model "Suburban 3500" at top right of screen
Then click on "specs" on the left
As of now it's showing 11,000# GVWR and a 3000# tow rating! (Click on "Trailering specs").
Utterly absurd. They're all screwed up! If I still worked there they'd be hearing from me, and how!! - Grit_dogNavigatorGood for GM to pick up on a hole in the current market .....

Edit: by ballz I meant a diesel! - lbrjetExplorerYour are wrong and I am wrong. The new standard subtracts a 150 lb driver and passenger for 1/2 tons and for 3/4 tons and 1 tons subtracts an additional 100 lbs.

SAE does not say that and it makes no sense. The max towing is the GCWR - weight of truck - driver.
No, J2807 changes that. The New SAE standard establishes performance at max GCWR. The concern is that the old standard of GCWR - weight of truck - 150lb driver overstated tow ratings. The new formula is GCWR-GVWR.
Makes sense that GVWR is that high if these are being up-armored....I don't recall ever seeing a secret service Suburban towing anything. - lbrjetExplorerSAE does not say that and it makes no sense. The max towing is the GCWR - weight of truck - driver. I am guessing the 6K number it is a misprint. A 12K plus GVWR would be incredible for a SUV. Have to wonder how many misprints there are.

...Interesting, on the 2016 GM Fleet Order Guide website I'm finding a Suburban 3500HD with a 12,700# GVWR, but still only a 6000# tow rating with a 4.10 axle no less.
Hmmmmm! Methinks it's screwed up!
I believe that the SAE tow ratings make you subtract your GVWR from your GCVWR for max towing. That is why 6000 is the answer. A 17000 GCVWR and a 11000 GVWR.
I saw that this was released to the 2016 Order Guide. You can get it in LS or LT trim. Appears to have all the standards of a 1500.
I would definitely defy the max tow rating up to the restriction of the receiver (documentation says 900lb tongue weight).
At least this vehicle will break the mold regarding exceeding your payload with just passengers. - AlmostAnOldGuyExplorerHigh GVWR, relatively low tow capabily and not for sale to the general public? I thought the Secret Service used to have armored Suburbans. Maybe they are due for some upgrades.
