I have a 2008 Trailblazer (the base LS) with the I-6, 273 hp engine. Dunno what rear gear ratio it has.
I tow a 20' pontoon and trailer... weighs about 3200-3500 pounds. I had thought about towing a light weight trailer given that it's supposed to be good for 5500 lbs. In practice, the hitch really drops even on the pontoon - about an inch or so - with 4 people in the car, I figure add another 1000 lbs with all the gear in the pontoon.
It's not great to tow with. I assume a 4000 lb trailer plus gear plus water plus people - you'd be right at the limit of 5500 if not over and I would not want to tow with a short wheelbase SUV and soft suspension.
Good luck finding a V8 trailblazer with anything less than 100k, those are the SS models. Even that would tow 6,000 - 6800 or so. Although they sit up higher, so I'm not sure if they stiffened the frame on that model. Mine has a softer ride than I expected from a "truck/SUV".
