We've got a 2004 22' Tahoe Lite we are currently towing with our 1965 Chevy Van w/292 inline 6. Been towing with it since 1988 all over western USA with no A/C. 25 years ago we could handle 100 degree temps. I still can but DW needs air.
A big part of tow vehicle selection besides vehicle capacities is meeting the expectations of the driver. Many drivers feel that if their truck slows on hills or doesn't handle perfectly then it's not acceptable as a tow vehicle. Also, there are many drivers who don't have the skill or experience to handle a combination that doesn't drive perfectly. Obviously you aren't the average driver, having towed successfully for many years with a van that many drivers probably couldn't drive around the block. While many may feel that the Trailblazer would not make a good tow vehicle for your trailer, it will be light years ahead of your van in performance and handling. I'm not knocking your van at all, but the Trailblazer has twice the horsepower and probably the same or longer wheelbase. (for those who aren't familiar with the old vans they have a very short wheelbase-IIRC just 108" for the long version)
A trailblazer will probably meet your expectations.
