G'day,
I have never chipped any previous or current truck.
Have had a 2002 Ford F250 sc lb diesel, for 7 years, then a 2011 Chev Silverado 2500hd sc lb.
Just exchanged Chevy, very nice, a for Dodge Ram Laramie, Crew 4x4 3500, now with
Super Springs 5000lb+ Commercial pack, ready for new Eagle Cap 1160.
Lots of people I bump into here in Western Australia, over the years with Fords, Chevies & Dodge
pickup trucks, modify their vehicles, changing wheels, tires, upgrading exhausts, removing DEF,
Removing Catalytic Converters, etc, but I have been very happy with all three pickups, as stock.
All three, 2002 F250 diesel, 2011 Chev, and Ram 3500, have all performed beautifully, above &
beyond my expectations.
Powerful & reasonably economical American pickup trucks are superior to European & Asian 2.5
to 3.5 litre, gutless, powerless, poor load bearing vehicles.
However, I started this forum to get some insight into what US Truck Campers might do to enhance their vehicle. Been interesting so far! But still happy with my stock vehicle(s), so far.
Even though 2012 Ram diesel 6.7litre is only a straight 6, as compared to previous Ford & Chev
Trucks being V8 diesels, Ram Cummins diesel, just simply gets up and goes, with huge torque, 1087nm.
Previous trucks were 3.73 diff ratio, and new Ram is 4.1, slightly less economical, but the pickup at
60mph/100kph is simply amazing, acceleration from 60mph to 85mph is quick, just seconds, and I
can pass any semi on the road safely or any European & Australian RV.
Most of my driving, I sit at 58-62mph/90-100kph for best fuel economy, with or without Camper,
with cruise on.
2012 Ram Cummins at 50mph is only doing 1050 revs per minute, amazing and best economy,
torque and speed is 1500 rpm.
About 10 years ago, drove a pickup with an 8 litre V10, in US for 2 weeks. Very uneconomical. Was fantastic though.
Have Diesel engines in my boat and prefer diesel in my trucks, just more reliable.
Still interested in others thoughts on chipping, but not convinced, yet?
Thank You, America, for your amazing big three pickup trucks, gas or diesel
