Also ??? on "city water disasters"....been around here 8 years and don't recall ever reading one. Please elaborate.
You do want to use a pressure valve for sure. And we add a brass tee. Since water hose hook-up is part of my job description, the other thing I do is to turn on the water for maybe 20 - 30 seconds and let it flush out anything that might have gotten into the hose - even though we hook the ends together and to at least feel that water coming in is fresh.
After being at a few CGs with poor tasting water, we added a faucet mount PUR filter and it makes a nice difference. The downside is that water pressure through the filter is slower, but we only use it to drink and fix coffee.
