Cleaning Fresh Water Tank

Just purchased a 2003 Aerolite Hybrid Cub and wanted to clean the freash water tank before we use it. Suggestions please!
  • We put the 1/4 bleach for 15 gallons in the FW, but we go for a drive to let it slosh around. Open each faucet until I smell bleach and close each tap. Wait a few hours and then run until no more bleach smell.
  • After emptying the FW tank by running pump to fill gray and black tanks, I refill FW tank with a mix of water and maybe 1/4 cup of baking soda. This helps freshen it and nuetrilizes the bleach. At this point, I run the mix thru the system, install my filter and ready for another season.
  • I periodically buy the the Thetford gray tank cleaner. It has something in it that also cleans the sensors.

Weekly I just buy a quart of any lemon cleaner from the grocery store and throw it down the drain. This works to keep it from smelling and my sensors always work.

I don't use bleach in any of my tanks because of the seals.

X2. Might take a couple of complete rinses to get rid of the chlorine in the system.
  • Fill tank with water, add a couple cap fulls of bleach, let sit, drain, refill tank and drain again should be good to go. Others may do it different but this is what works for me.
