Coachman Freedom Express Questions

Newbie here. My wife and I are looking at the Coachman Freedom Express travel trailers. If anyone has any input on quality and/or towing characteristics please respond. We are looking at the 246RKS and the 231RBDS. Any info is appreciated. We tow with a 2014 F150 5.0L, screw, 7350 GVWR and WDH.
  • I had a small leak in my 233, caulked the clearance lights and no more leak.
  • we purchased the 246rks in march and picked it up in june(had to be built), finally got use it over the july 4th weekend and found leaks in the bedroom. Took it back to the dealer, they had it for a month and all they could come up with was debris in the slide out and a faulty shower door.

had it for another 1.5 weeks until it rained again, and of course we had large pools of water on both sides of the bed. took it back a again, this time they only had it for a week as I stated we needed it back for labor day. They ended up proflex rv'ign the entire trailer, all windows doors and compartments.

All was fine until it rained very heavily yesterday and once again we found water in the same places. at this point I'm not sure what to do....
  • We have a '14 Coachman Freedom Express 230BH. (4200 lb) We are pleased with the quality of the trailer. On our second year with it. No problems....no issues....no surprises. Has double axles....tows/tracks very well with WDH. Tow with a half ton Silverado.
  • I have a 2015 Freedom Express 246RK. Pros are: tows extremely well.
Axles are wide spaced, and set back farther than most. Gives good tonque weight and very little effected by crosswinds. Best shower enclosure available in a small trailer. 80" queen bed, with no wall at foot. Small slide doesn't affect campsite selection, and doesn't include wheel openings. Drawer for utensils, plenty of storage with the cabinets on both sides of the couch. No carpet, alloy wheels, spare tire up front under A frame, Non-cranking TV antenna, looks great. I replaced stock toilet with ceramic upgrade, and replaced swiveling TV bracket with much sturdier tilting only bracket, with additional support in cabinet, and added Blu Ray player in cabinet. Does have wheel well box under dinette, but there's just two of us so it doesn't come into play. Quality has been excellent. Huge electric awning with LED lights and a whole lot more. Easily the best RV I have had (it is the 13th RV!)

  • We are empty nesters so it will be just the two of use. We are downsizing from our current bunkhouse tt to something smaller. Amenities on a new tt are negotiable. We are exploring all of our options.
  • F150 screw - How many people are going with you? Both floorplans are more suited for two people vs a family.

Personal preference for DW & me, but we don't like a solid wall at the foot of the bed.
Do you want a tub, or a shower stall?
    U-dinette, or twin bench seats?
    Full-width bath, or full-width kitchen?
I dislike any floorplan where you don't sit directly in front of the tv set - Not that we watch a lot of tv when we're camping, but it does put a crink in my neck after a while.
I can't tell from the pic, but does the 246RKS have a flush floor under the dinette, or is there a raised box for the wheel well? A box cuts into the foot room for people sitting near the wall.
Again, personal preference, but an outside kitchen doesn't do anything for us. We bring a small Weber charcoal grill and a propane stove for outside cooking.

BTW - make sure the F150 has the relay and fuse installed for the trailer charge line.
